![]() The oldest part of Blooming Grove Cemetery. Pictured here in January, 1931 The beautiful, well kept cemetery known as Blooming Grove sits on the land orginally owned by Hamilton County Pioneer, Mastin Bond. Before the time of this English settler, the hill was roamed and hunted by the ancient Shawnee Indians.
The oldest part of the cemetery is eastward from the third row from the front, in the middle part of the section between the cemetery road and the ravine. The first log church building was located in this area. In 1898, the church agreed to enlarge the cemetery 20ft west and 75ft north.
"Whereas, the cemetery of Blooming Grove Church which contains the bodies of ourdeparted dead is in need of a fund which will provide permanent maintenance, therefore be it resolved that the pastor, deacons, and trustees be made a committee to raise a fund of $1,000.00 as a sinkingfund, principal never to be used, but interest to be spent by trustees in maintenance of the cemetery."
Eld. John Maulding, Moderator
George P. Mitchell, Clerk
In June, 1922, the money was raised and turned over to the trustees-Douglas W. Daily, W.C. Daily, J.E. Daily, Oran Felix, & Tom Cullins.
In 1958, after the road was changed and cut across the church yard, a triangular piece of land from the Willie Echols farm was purchased by Joe Edgar Rawls and given to the church for a new cemetery edition. This is the newest, North part of the cemetery known as the 5th addition.
On March 6, 1960, the trustees of Blooming Grove Cemetery deeded the cemetery to the cemetery trustees of South Crouch Township. In 1983,Edith Lev donated the funds to buy two acres of land from Richard Gidcumb to be used for cemetery purposes. It was given in memory of Blooming Grove charter member, Pressley Maulding.
More recently, additional acerage has been purchased south of the current cemetery for future burial purposes.
Currently, cemetery property is available at $400 for a 4 space, 10' x 18', lot ($100/space). The lots are available in various locations throughout the cemetery. They can be purchased by contacting a South Crouch Cemetery Board member.
